Every year in Chesterton, on November 5, we come together to celebrate Bonfire Night, all over the county of Gloucestershire we gather around the bonfire.

What is the Bonfire Night associated with?

The main reason why Guy Fawkes tried to assassinate King James I is that it is a way to celebrate the failure of the event.

This happened in 1605 and people have been celebrating ever since.

At that time, there was a lot of anger against the king because he was seen as being against the Catholics.

Robert and Guy Fawkes were Catholics who believed that an armed struggle would restore Catholicism to its rightful place.

Two people came up with a plan to blow up the Palace of Commons.

The king was in attendance and the plan was to kill him during the process.

The conspiracy member got cold feet and sent a letter to the parliament.

The conspirators were taken into custody here after they learned about the plan.

The Parliament shared that the conspirators had been caught and punished.

The Parliament decided to make the 5th of November a day to be thankful for, and therefore the tradition to light bonfires.

We ended up at the Bonfire Night.

In some parts of the country you can find kids that blackened their faces, a testament to what Guy Fawkes did when he was about to blow up the Parliament.
• The biggest cities in the country get some of the largest fireworks displays. There are bonfires and amazing firework displays all over the country.
• Many people in the UK burn an effigy, a homemade model of a man, similar to a bird. This effigy is meant to represent Guy Fawkes, and it’s usually made out of straw or paper, all of it stuffed within old clothes.
