Cwmbach Bonfire Night 2022

Every year in Cwmbach, on November 5, we come together to celebrate Bonfire Night, all over the county of Rhondda Cynon Taf we gather around the bonfire.

What is the Bonfire Night associated with?

The main reason why Guy Fawkes tried to assassinate King James I is that it is a way to celebrate the failure of the event.

This happened in 1605 and people have celebrated it ever since.

At that time, there was a lot of anger against the king since he was seen as being against the Catholics.

At that time, Robert Catesby and Guy Fawkes were Catholics with the vision that only an armed struggle would reinstate Catholicism to the rightful place.

They came up with a plan to blow up the Palace.

The king was in attendance, so the plan was to kill him.

A conspiracy member was cold feet and sent a letter to the parliament.

The other conspirators were also taken into custody when they learned about the plan.

The Parliament made a statement that the conspirators were caught and punished.

Also, the Parliament chose to declare the 5th of November as a day to be thankful for, and hence the tradition to light up bonfires.

We ended up at the Bonfire Night.

In some regions, you can find kids that blackened their faces, a testament to what Guy Fawkes did when he was about to blow up the Parliament.
• During the Bonfire Night processions, flaming tar barrels on the shoulders are a tradition. Again, this is a nod to the plans that Guy Fawkes and his team had to blow up the parliament building.
