Every year in Forest Town, on November 5, we come together to celebrate Bonfire Night, all over the county of Nottinghamshire we gather around the bonfire.
An annual event over the years, the Bonfire Night is one of those incredible festivities and celebrations.
Why do people enjoy these festivities so much?
You can get up to speed with the reasons behind its popularity by reading this quick rundown.
The main reason why Guy Fawkes failed in his attempt to assassinate King James I is that it is a way to celebrate the failure.
This happened in 1605 and people have been celebrating the night ever since.
At that time, there was a lot of anger against the king, since he was seen as being intolerant against the Catholics.
Robert and Guy Fawkes were Catholics who believed in an armed struggle to return Catholicism to its rightful place.
The supporters came up with a plan to blow up the Palace of Westminster.
The king was in attendance there, so the plan was also to assassinate him during the process.
A conspiracy member sent a letter to the parliament.
The other conspirators were also taken into custody after they learned of the plan.
The Parliament shared that the conspirators were caught and punished in a public statement.
The Parliament decided to make the 5th of November a day to be thankful for, and therefore the tradition to light up bonfires.
Which led us to the Bonfire Night.
Nowadays Bonfire Night activities are enjoyed all over the UK
The origins of the event are sinister, but over the years it has become a community focused event.
The firework manufacturers decided to change the celebration's name to Fireworks Night at the beginning of the 20th century because of its focus on having fun.
In the 20th century, the event looked similar to what we are experiencing today.
You will find a lot of great attractions and events in the UK.
In the countryside, you mostly have large bonfires and local events, food and drinks being shared with the community, but there are also smaller events.
It has become a community-focused event where everyone has a great time and they enjoy the presence of other like-minded people.
You will also be able to enjoy some great firework displays, with some regions going out of their way to use incredible fireworks for a night to remember.
People use flaming torches, fireworks, and sparklers during Bonfire Night.
This is obviously a clear nod to the failure of Guy Fawkes and his band as they tried to blow up the Parliament, a celebration of independence, but in a safe manner.
Most of the time, these Bonfire Night events include a firework display and large bonfire.
There are more than just bonfires and fireworks at the Bonfire Night events.
There are lots of things associated with this event.
The jacket potato, parkin, black peas, treacle toffee, and the toffee apples are just a few of the things that are associated with the Bonfire Night.
These are eaten throughout the country, and some regions have their own special meals prepared around the 5th of November.
Some families eat soup and share it with friends and family.
Depending on where they live, people tend to dress up in different costumes during Bonfire Night.
This is in preparation for the events.
The Bonfire Night is a great time for most people to show off their winter attire.
Something to keep in mind is that a winter knit with a Classical touch is usually the right way to go here.
If you want to protect yourself from the cold weather, a proper outfit is more than welcome.
Over the years, Bonfire Night has become a staple event and it continues every year.
It is a great time for people to connect, celebrate and enjoy some amazing food.
People have been impressed by it over the years.
Even if the origins of this event are a bit darker, there is no denying that over the years it has evolved into a more community-friendly event.
The most important parts of Bonfire Night are happiness and a good time, and we can expect this event to continue for years and years to come.
