Every year in Harrow on the Hill, on November 5, we come together to celebrate Bonfire Night, all over the county of Greater London we gather around the bonfire.
Over the years, the Bonfire Night has become an annual celebration.
Why do people like these festivities so much?
You can get up to speed with the reasons behind the amazing popularity of the Bonfire Night with this quick list.
The main reason why Guy Fawkes failed in his attempt to assassinate King James I is that it is a way to celebrate the failure.
This happened in 1605 and people have been celebrating it ever since.
There was a lot of anger against the king, due to the fact that he was against Catholics.
Robert and Guy Fawkes were Catholics who believed in an armed struggle to restore Catholicism to its rightful place.
They came up with a plan to blow up the palace.
The plan was to kill the king when he was there.
A conspiracy member sent a letter to the parliament but was cold feet.
The other conspirators were also taken into custody after they learned about the plan.
The Parliament shared with the public that the conspirators were caught and punished.
The Parliament decided to light up bonfires on the 5th of November to be thankful for.
Which eventually took us to the Bonfire Night.
The UK has a lot of Bonfire Night activities.
Over the years, Bonfire Night has become a community focused event despite its sinister origins.
The firework manufacturers decided to change the celebration's name to Fireworks Night at the beginning of the 20th century because they were focused on having fun.
The event looked similar as the 20th century went on.
The events of bonfires and fireworks are not the only celebrations of the night.
There are a lot of foods associated with the event.
The jacket potato, parkin, black peas, treacle toffee, and the toffee apples are all associated with Bonfire Night.
These are eaten all over the country, and some regions have their own special meals that they prepare around the 5th of November.
It is important to note that some families eat soup and share it with friends.
Depending on where they live, people tend to dress up in various costumes on Bonfire Night.
This approach is quite interesting and is in preparation for the events.
The Bonfire Night is a good time for people to show off their winter clothing.
Something to keep in mind is that a winter knit with a classical touch is a good way to go here.
A proper outfit that protects you from the cold weather is more than welcome, even if you don't have to dress up in a costume.
People in costumes use flaming torches, fireworks and sparklers at Bonfire Night.
This is a clear nod to the failure of Guy Fawkes and his band as they attempted to blow up the Parliament, a celebration of independence, but in a safe way.
The majority of the time, these events end with a firework display and large bonfire.
You will find a lot of amazing attractions and events in the UK.
Large bonfires and local events, food and drinks are shared with the community in the countryside regions.
It has become a community-focused event for a lot of people because they enjoy the presence of other like-minded people.
