Every year in Killingworth, on November 5, we come together to celebrate Bonfire Night, all over the county of Somerset we gather around the bonfire.
Over the years, the Bonfire Night has been an annual event.
What does it mean and why do people love these celebrations so much?
You can get up to speed with the reasons behind its popularity here.
It is a way to celebrate the failure of Guy Fawkes as he tried to assassinate King James I while also attempting to blow up the parliament in the UK.
In 1605 this happened, and people have celebrated the Bonfire Night ever since.
At that time, there was a lot of anger against the king, since he was seen as being too tolerant of the Catholics.
Robert and Guy Fawkes were Catholics who believed in an armed struggle to return Catholicism to its rightful place.
The two people came up with a plan to blow up the Palace of Westminster.
The king was in attendance, so the plan was to kill him during the process.
A conspiracy member sent a letter to the parliament but ended up cold feet.
The other conspirators were taken into custody here after they learned about the plan.
The Parliament made a statement regarding the situation and shared that the conspirators were caught and punished.
The Parliament decided to light up bonfires on the 5th of November in honor of being thankful.
It led us to the Bonfire Night.
There are Bonfire Night activities in the UK nowadays.
The origins of the event are sinister, but over the years it has become a community focused event.
The celebration was renamed to Fireworks Night at the beginning of the 20th century due to the fact that the focus was on having fun.
The event of the 20th century looked very similar to what we are seeing today.
People parade in costumes and use flaming torches, fireworks and sparklers.
The failure of Guy Fawkes and his band as they tried to blow up the Parliament is a clear nod to that.
Most of the time, these Bonfire Night events include a firework display and large bonfire.
Depending on where they live, people tend to dress up in different costumes.
It is quite interesting that this is being prepared for the events.
The Bonfire Night is a good time for people to show off their winter clothing.
A winter knit with a classical touch is the right way to go here, and something to keep in mind.
You don't have to dress up in a costume, but a proper outfit that helps you protect yourself against the cold is more than welcome.
The events of bonfires and fireworks are not the only thing going on during the night.
There are lots of foods associated with the event.
The jacket potato, parkin, black peas and treacle toffee are just some of the things associated with the Bonfire Night.
These are eaten throughout the country, and some regions have their own special meals prepared around the 5th of November.
Some families eat soups and share them with friends or family members.
You are going to find a lot of great attractions and events in the UK.
In the countryside, there are usually large bonfires, food and drinks shared with the community, and smaller events.
For a lot of people, Bonfire Night has become a community-focused event where everyone has a great time and they enjoy the presence of other like minded people.
You will also get to watch some great firework displays, with some regions going out of their way to use incredible fireworks for a night to remember.
Every year, there is a staple event called Bonfire Night.
It is a great time for people to celebrate and enjoy some great food.
Over the years, it has been one of those events that people have been impressed by.
