Every year in Liswerry, on November 5, we come together to celebrate Bonfire Night, all over the county of Newport we gather around the bonfire.
The Bonfire Night has become an annual event over the years because of it's incredible festivities.
But what does it signify and why do people love these festivities so much?
You can get up to speed with the reasons behind the amazing popularity of the Bonfire Night with this quick rundown.
The main reason why Guy Fawkes failed in his attempt to assassinate King James I is that it is a way to celebrate.
This happened in 1605 and people have been celebrating ever since.
There was a lot of anger against the king due to the fact he was against the Catholics.
Robert Catesby and Guy Fawkes were Catholics who believed in an armed struggle to return Catholicism to the rightful place.
Two people came up with a plan to blow up a building.
The plan was to kill the king because he was in attendance.
The member of the conspiracy sent a letter to the parliament.
The other conspirators ended up being taken into custody here after they learned about the plan.
The Parliament made a statement about the situation and shared that the conspirators had been caught and punished.
The Parliament decided to light up bonfires on the 5th of November as a way to be thankful.
Which, eventually, led us to the Bonfire Night.
There are Bonfire Night activities in many locations in the UK.
The origins of the event are sinister, but over the years it has become a community focused event.
