Every year in Newbridge, on November 5, we come together to celebrate Bonfire Night, all over the county of Caerphilly we gather around the bonfire.

The main reason why Guy Fawkes failed in his attempt to assassinate King James I is that Bonfire Night is a way to celebrate.

This happened in 1605 and people have been celebrating ever since.

There was a lot of anger against the king due to the fact that many thought he was against the Catholics.

Robert Catesby and Guy Fawkes were Catholics who believed in an armed struggle to bring about the return of Catholicism to the rightful place.

The supporters came up with a plan to blow up the palace.

The plan was to kill the king because he was there.

A member of the conspiracy sent a letter to the parliament, but got cold feet.

The other conspirators were also taken into custody once they learned about the plan.

The Parliament said that the conspirators were caught and punished.

The Parliament decided to make the 5th of November a day to be thankful for.

We eventually ended up at the Bonfire Night.

The firework manufacturers decided to change the celebration's name to Fireworks Night at the beginning of the 20th century because they were focused on having fun.

In some parts of the world, you can find kids that blackened their faces, a testament to what Guy Fawkes did when he was preparing to blow up the Parliament.
• The biggest cities in the country get the largest firework displays. Even in rural areas, you will find amazing firework displays and bonfires all over the country.
• The bonfires are more than just a symbol of the failed complot, they are also used to cook all kinds of food. The crowds come by to see the fireworks and a lot of people heat up soup. Some people cook potatoes in foil with marshmallows or sausages as well. People eat a traditional parking cake on Bonfire Night. It has syrup, ginger, oatmeal and treacle, and it is very delicious.
