Nork Bonfire Night 2022

Every year in Nork, on November 5, we come together to celebrate Bonfire Night, all over the county of Surrey we gather around the bonfire.

Over the years, the Bonfire Night has become an annual celebration.

But what is it that makes people love these festivities so much?

What is the Bonfire Night connected to?

The main reason why Guy Fawkes failed in his attempt to assassinate King James I is that he was celebrating the failure of the parliament.

This happened in 1605 and people have been celebrating Bonfire Nights ever since.

There was a lot of anger towards the king due to the fact that he was against Catholics.

Robert and Guy Fawkes were Catholics who believed in an armed struggle to return Catholicism to its rightful place.

A group of people came up with a plan to blow up the Palace.

The plan was to assassinate the king because he was there.

A conspiracy member got cold feet and sent a letter to parliament.

The other conspirators were also taken into custody after they learned of the plan.

The Parliament shared the fact that the conspirators were caught and punished in a public statement.

The Parliament decided to light up bonfires on the 5th of November in order to be thankful for it.

We eventually went to the Bonfire Night.

Nowadays Bonfire Night activities are enjoyed all over the UK.

Despite the fact that Bonfire Night's origins are sinister, it has become a community focused event over the years.

The firework manufacturers decided to change the celebration's name to Fireworks Night at the beginning of the 20th century because they were focused on having fun.

The event of the 20th century looked more and more like what we are experiencing today.

Bonfire Night attractions

There are some amazing attractions in the UK.

In the countryside, you mostly have large bonfires and local events, food and drinks being shared with the community, as well as smaller events.

For a lot of people, Bonfire Night has become a community-focused event where everyone has a good time and they enjoy the presence of other like-minded people.

There are some traditions:

• Many people in the UK burn an effigy, a homemade model of a man, very similar to a bird. The effigy is usually made out of straw or paper, and stuffed with old clothes.
• The country's biggest cities get some of the largest firework displays. Even in rural areas, you will find bonfires and incredible firework displays all over the country.
• The tradition is called "Penny for the Guy" Kids used to take homemade Guy effigies on the street and try to get some money to buy fireworks. In some areas, you can find kids that blackened their faces, a testament to what Guy Fawkes tried to do when he was preparing to blow up the Parliament.
• During the Bonfire Night processions, flaming tar barrels on the shoulders are a tradition. This is a nod to the plans that Guy Fawkes and his team had to blow up Parliament.
• The bonfires aren't just meant to be a symbol of the failed complot, they are also used to cook all kinds of food. Crowds come by to see the fireworks and a lot of people heat up soup for them. Some people cook potatoes in foil with marshmallows or sausages as well. The parking cake is a traditional cake that is eaten on the Bonfire Night. A cake with syrup, ginger, oatmeal and treacle is very tasty.

What should you wear?

The interesting thing to note about Bonfire Night is that people tend to dress up in various costumes, depending on where they live.

In preparation for the events, this approach is quite interesting.

The Bonfire Night is a great time for most people to show off their winter clothes.

A winter knit with a classical touch is the right way to go here, and something to keep in mind.

You don't have to dress up in a costume, but a proper outfit that protects you against the cold is more than welcome.
