What is the Bonfire Night associated with?

It is a way to celebrate the failure of Guy Fawkes as he tried to assassinate King James I while also attempting to blow up the parliament.

The Bonfire Night was celebrated in 1605 and people have been celebrating ever since.

The other conspirators were also taken into custody when they learned about the plan.

The Parliament said that the conspirators were caught and punished.

The Parliament decided to make the 5th of November a day to be thankful for and therefore the tradition of lighting up bonfires.

We ended up going to the Bonfire Night.

• Many people in the UK burn an effigy, a homemade model of a man, very similar to a bird. The effigy is stuffed with old clothes and made out of straw or paper, which is supposed to represent Guy Fawkes.
• The bonfires are used to cook all kinds of food, even though they are only meant to be a symbol of the failed complot. A lot of people heat up soup for the crowds that come by to watch the fireworks. It's possible to cook potatoes wrapped in a foil and also marshmallows or sausages. The parking cake is a traditional dessert that people eat on Bonfire Night. The cake has syrup, ginger, oatmeal and treacle, and it is very tasty.
• The "Penny for the Guy" is an interesting tradition. Kids used to take homemade Guy effigies on the street in order to ask for money for the fireworks. In some parts of the world you can find kids that blackened their faces, a testament to what Guy Fawkes did when he was preparing to blow up the Parliament.
• During the Bonfire Night processions, flaming tar barrels are carried on the shoulders. Again, this is a nod to the plans that Guy Fawkes and his team had, in an attempt to blow up the parliament building.
