Every year in Townsend, on November 5, we come together to celebrate Bonfire Night, with fireworks lighting up the skies across the county of Hertfordshire.
Every year, the Bonfire Night has been adopted as an annual event.
What is it that makes people love these festivities so much?
You can get up to speed with the reasons behind the popularity of the Bonfire Night in a few minutes.
The main reason why Guy Fawkes failed in his attempt to assassinate King James I is that Bonfire Night is a way to celebrate.
In 1605 this happened, and people have celebrated the Bonfire Night ever since.
At that time there was a lot of anger against the king since he was seen as being against the Catholics.
Robert Catesby and Guy Fawkes were Catholics who believed that only an armed struggle would bring Catholicism back to it's rightful place.
These two and other supporters came up with a plan to blow up the Palace of Westminster.
The plan was to kill the king because he was there.
A conspiracy member sent a letter to the parliament but ended up cold feet.
The other conspirators were taken into custody when they learned about the plan.
The Parliament shared with the public that the conspirators were caught and punished.
The Parliament decided to make the 5th of November a day to be thankful for and hence the tradition to light up bonfires.
Which led to the Bonfire Night.
Nowadays Bonfire Night activities are enjoyed throughout the UK in locations like Hertfordshire.
Over the years, Bonfire Night has become a community focused event despite the fact that its origins are sinister.
The celebration was renamed at the beginning of the 20th century by firework manufacturers to "Bonfire Night or the Fireworks Night" because the focus is on having fun.
The event of the 20th century looked similar to what we are currently experiencing.
Depending on where you live, people tend to dress up in different costumes.
It is quite an interesting approach to prepare for the events.
Most people like to show off their winter wardrobe during the Bonfire Night.
A winter knit with a classical touch is usually the right way to go here and something to keep in mind.
You don't have to dress up in a costume, but a proper outfit that protects you from the cold weather is more than welcome.
During Bonfire Night, people parade in costumes and use flaming torches, fireworks, and sparklers.
This is a clear nod to the failure of the band that tried to blow up the Parliament as it was a celebration of independence.
Most of the time, there is a firework display and a large bonfire.
There are lots of amazing attractions and events in the UK.
In the countryside, you mostly have large bonfires and local events with food and drinks being shared with the community.
It has become a community-focused event for a lot of people because they enjoy the presence of other like-minded people.
You will get to enjoy some great firework displays, with some regions going out of their way to use incredible pyrotechnics for a night to remember.
The celebration with bonfires and fireworks is not the only thing happening.
There are many foods associated with this event.
The jacket potato, parkin, black peas and treacle toffee are all associated with the Bonfire Night.
Some regions have their own special meals that are prepared around the 5th of November, and eaten throughout the country.
Some families eat soups too and share them with friends or family members.
Every year, Bonfire Night continues to be a staple event.
It's a great time for people to celebrate and eat amazing foods.
Over the years it has been one of those events that have impressed people.
Even if the origins of this event are a bit darker, there is no denying that the event has become a more community-friendly event.
The most important parts of Bonfire Night are happiness and good time, and we can expect this event to continue for many years to come.
